Hiking in Khun Tan National Park
DESTINATION: Khun Tan Railway Station
DATE OF TRIP: 22-26 December 2022
For this trip, I will be taking Express No. 51 to Khun Tan Railway Station in Lamphun Province. This is the highest railway station in Thailand at 578 metres above sea level. It is at the northern end of Khun Tan tunnel which is the longest in Thailand at 1,352.10 metres long. The third thing of notable interest is that this railway line is in Doi Khun Tan National Park. Which is the reason that I am going here. I will be hiking up to the top of the mountain and camping near the top. For my return train, I decided to go for Special Express No. 10 CNR sleeper train. This is because it leaves at 7:21 p.m. compared to 4:50 p.m. for the Express No. 52 sleeper train. I wasn’t sure how much time I would need to come down from the mountain. Plus it is a nicer train. If I do come early, I have the option to catch Local No. 407 to Chiang Mai that leaves at 1:30 p.m. No. 10 then leaves Chiang Mai at 6:00 p.m. I bought my ticket for Chiang Mai to Bangkok just in case I wanted this option.
