No. 13: Bangkok to Chiang Mai
The Special Express No. 13 sleeper train goes from Bangkok to Chiang Mai overnight. It uses the older sleeper carriages and so is slightly cheaper than the Special Express No. 9 train that leaves Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal an hour earlier. So, make sure you get on the right train! At the moment, there is no restaurant car on this train and you are advised to take your own food and drinks.

Tickets in 1st Class are 1,253 baht for the upper berth, 1,453 baht for the lower berth, and 1,953 to book the cabin if you are travelling alone. In 2nd Class, tickets are 771 baht for the upper berth and 841 baht for the lower berth. There is a discount for children. The return journey is made by No. 14 Special Express train.
