Seating Map for 1st Class Sleeper Carriages
This page is my attempt of doing a “seat guru” for trains. The aim is to help you understand the seating layout on trains in Thailand and how to choose the best ones for you.
1ST CLASS SLEEPING CARRIAGE (CNR)
This is the seating plan for the 1st Class sleeper carriage on a CNR train according to the D-Ticket website. Green denotes that the berth is free. Blue means it has already been booked. In this example, four berths have been booked so far (13-16). These are Cabins 7 and 8.
Seats 1 and 2 are in Cabin 1. Seats 3 and 4 are in Cabin 2. Seats 5 and 6 are in Cabin 3 etc. Seat 2 is a lower berth and Seat 1 is an upper berth. Another way to look at it is, even numbers are lower berth and odd numbers are upper berth. Cabins 1 and 2, 3 and 4, 5 and 6 etc. have interconnecting doors. This is good if you are travelling as a family or group.
If you are travelling alone and you want single occupancy in your own cabin, then you need to click the box at the top where it says “Room”. If you just click on an upper or lower berth, then you could end up with a stranger in the same cabin.
Your room has a private window with curtains at the top of the floorplan. This could be on either the righthand side or the left of the train. At the bottom of the floorplan is the corridor which has windows for the other side of the train.
You enter the carriage from the left of the floorplan. The toilets are at the other end. Doors are automatic and so you shouldn’t suffer from toilet smells. For myself, I prefer a cabin in the middle. But, if you don’t want neighbours on both sides, then you might like to have the first or last cabin. This carriage has three toilets. One of which is a urinal. There is a fourth room which is a dedicated shower.
