Bangkok to Phuket – By Train, Bus And Plane
There are no direct trains from Bangkok to Phuket. The nearest destination is Surat Thani which is a tourist destination in itself. I would suggest go there first to visit the nearby islands of Samui, Koh Phan-ngan, and Koh Tao, and then catch a bus from Surat Thani to Phuket. You can also catch direct buses from Bangkok or even fly from Bangkok to Phuket.

If you want to go by train to Surat Thani and then by bus to Phuket, I suggest that you catch Express No. 83 that arrives at 4:58 a.m., Express No. 85 that arrives at 6:23 a.m., Rapid No. 167 that arrives at 7:16 a.m., or Special Express No. 39 that arrives at 7:50 a.m. There are a number of good hotels near the station if you want to stay overnight and do some trips first. Otherwise you can catch a bus or do a private mini-van transfer from the station.
