Suphanburi Branch Line
The Suphan Buri Line is a 78-kilometer (48-mile) railway line in Western Thailand. It branches off from the Southern Line at Nong Pladuk Junction Station and runs to Suphan Buri Station. The line was opened on 16th June 1963, by Prime Minister Sarit Thanarat. There were initially 16 stops, but only seven now remain in operation. Apart from the first and last, all of the stops are halts which means this line has the longest distance between two stations.
TRAINS:
The line is served by two trains per week, which depart from Bangkok at 4:40 p.m. on Fridays and Sundays and arrives in Suphan Buri at 7:40. The return train departs from Suphan Buri at 4:40 a.m. on Saturdays and Mondays and arrives in Bangkok at 8:10 a.m. The line is used for both passenger and freight traffic. The line is not popular with tourists due to the odd hours, but it passes through some scenic areas, including the Chao Phraya River and the Nakhon Pathom Province countryside. The line is mainly used by local residents to travel to and from Suphan Buri.
