D-Ticket Waiting List Now Available for Train Passengers

The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) has announced the launch of a new “Waiting List” function on its D-Ticket online ticketing system. This feature allows passengers to join a waiting list for trains in case the desired seat is full.

The Waiting List function is available to passengers who book tickets through the D-Ticket system via the internet (i-Ticket), application (M-Ticket), or ticket counters at stations (TCT). Passengers must be registered members (Member) who have verified their identity in the SRT’s D-Ticket system.

In the above example, the greyed-out box is for a sold-out carriage that you can join the waiting list. The box with a white background means there are seats available.

To use the Waiting List function, passengers must follow these steps:

  1. Be a registered member (Member) and have verified their identity in the SRT’s D-Ticket system.
  2. If the desired seat is full when booking a ticket through the D-Ticket system via the internet (i-Ticket) or application (M-Ticket), the system will display the “Waiting List” function. Passengers can then activate the function by clicking on “Waiting List” to confirm their request.
  3. If passengers come to request a seat reservation at the D-Ticket system at the ticket counter at the station and the desired seat is full, they can inform the ticket counter staff to activate the “Waiting List” function to confirm their request.
  4. When passengers choose to use the “Waiting List” function, if the system checks and finds a vacant seat, the D-Ticket system will automatically send a ticket booking code to the passenger’s email. Passengers must take the ticket booking code to issue a ticket within 3 hours. If the deadline is exceeded, the system will automatically cancel the right immediately. Passengers can issue tickets themselves through the internet system (i-Ticket), application (M-Ticket), or go to the station for the staff to issue tickets for them.

The Waiting List function is available starting from May 1, 2024.

  • If I book a second-class ticket and put myself on the waiting list for first-class and tickets become available for first-class, will I be able to process a change of my original ticket to the first-class ticket or will I just have to cancel the original ticket? Thank you.

    • You can change tickets yourself by using the D-Ticket app or visiting your local station. You just have to pay the extra for the more expensive ticket. But I have heard of no-one who was successful with the waiting list.

  • I have registered. I need to book tickets for 9 people. The train is sold out. I did a search for 4 people and clicked on ‘Waiting List’. I then did another search for 4 people and when I click on “Waiting List” I get a message “Already added to waiting list”. Two questions:

    1) How do I know I am on a waiting list?
    2) How do I book for more than 4 people?

    • I would not rely on that waiting list. I tried several times just for one ticket and had no luck.

  • I am curious, I booked an overnight express ticket a d booked the room to myself. My wife now wants to accompany me. Can I add a second passenger to the room?

    • No, you would have to cancel your booking first (losing 70% of your ticket price) and then book the same again but for two people. Best to call 1690 to help you or go to your local station.

  • Is the railway from Suvarnabhumi Airport to Bangkok city center operated by SRT? If I booked a ticket departing from Hua Lamphong Station, can I cancel it at the airport station?

    • Airport Rail Link and the trains coming out of Hua Lamphong are two different companies. Anyway, most trains coming out of Hua Lamphong you cannot book online or in advance. You have to buy at the station like an hour before departure. What train are you talking about?

      • Train#909 and #910, Bangkok(Hua Lamphong) to Nam Tok, and return.

        • Okay, that’s one of the few you can book in advance for that station. But no, you cannot cancel it at the ARL station at the airport. You would have to go to one of the nearby SRT stations like Lat Krabang (next door to Airport Rail Link station if the same name) or cancel online if you bought it on DTicket.

          • Because I am abroad, I cannot call the hotline 1690 to inquire. However, when I asked through the official SRT Facebook page, the answer was that excursion trains cannot be refunded anyway, even though the e-ticket states that the refund policy does not allow for cash refunds only.A very astonishing reply.
