Thailand’s State Railway Opens Booking for Steam Locomotive Commemorative Trip
The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) has announced the opening of ticket sales for a special steam locomotive trip celebrating the 72nd birthday of King Maha Vajiralongkorn on July 28, 2024. Tickets will be available starting June 28, 2024.
Ekarat Sriarayanpong, head of the Governor’s Office of the State Railway of Thailand, revealed that this special historic route from Bangkok to Ayutthaya aims to honor the King. The trip offers an opportunity for the public to express loyalty and gratitude for the King’s numerous royal duties benefiting the nation.
Passengers will travel on the historic Bangkok-Ayutthaya route aboard the Pacific-type steam locomotives No. 824 and 850, built by Nippon Sharyo Co., Ltd. after World War II. The train will depart from Bangkok’s Hua Lamphong Station at 8:10 a.m., arriving in Ayutthaya at 10:20 a.m. Travelers can explore Ayutthaya’s historical sites, temples, and restaurants for about six hours before the return journey at 4:40 p.m., reaching Bangkok at 6:50 p.m.
Ticket prices are 329 baht for third-class seats and 799 baht for air-conditioned OTOP cars, including snacks and beverages. Passengers on this trip will also receive Dettol products as part of a collaboration between SRT and Reckitt Benckiser (Thailand) Ltd.
Tickets will be available nationwide from 8:30 a.m. on June 28, 2024, and can be reserved up to 30 days in advance via the D-Ticket system or at any railway station.
For those unable to join this trip, SRT has scheduled two additional family-oriented excursions in August: a Mother’s Day trip on August 12 from Bangkok to Chachoengsao Junction, and a Royal Blossom trip on August 17 from Bangkok to Kanchanaburi. These trips aim to strengthen family bonds and promote domestic tourism.
