[3] The ticket price for this trip is 699 Baht. We left Bangkok at 8:05am and we will return at 11:10pm. They gave us breakfast on the train plus some snacks. We also got a key ring souvenir. So far it seems good value for money.
[4] Our train arrived in Phetchaburi at 11:30am. It had taken three and a half hours from Bangkok. We were then split into groups for a tram tour of the city. Our first stop was the street art along the river.

[5] We were then given some free time to walk around and find somewhere to eat. I had beef noodles. Interestingly the soup also had lemon grass and galangal.

[6] After lunch, our group met back at Wat Phlap Phla Chai. Here we visited the Nang Yai Shadow Puppet museum. We were also lucky to be able to watch a short performance by local students.

[7] We then got back on the tram to visit Wat Yai Suwannaram. This is one of the most revered temples in Phetchaburi. In the ordination hall there are are some ancient murals as well as a Buddha image with 11 toes.

[8] Our next stop was Phra Ram Ratchaniwet (Wang Ban Puen). This European style building was built for King Rama V to use as a rainy season palace.

[9] The highlight of any trip to Phetchaburi is Phra Nakhon Khiri (Khao Wang). This was built as the summer palace for King Rama IV in 1860. You can either walk up to the top or take a funicular cable car. The views from the top are superb.

[11] After coming back down from the hill I was only left with a short time to explore the festival before it was time to head back to the railway station for the train journey home. The train was scheduled to leave at 7:50pm and arrive in Bangkok at 11:10pm. A long day.
[12] It was a good one day trip to Phetchaburi. We did see a lot. I think overall it only gave us a taster of the festival as we had to leave too soon. I would have liked to have stayed longer. I would certainly consider going again for this festival next year but stay overnight.
