Catching the Train Between Padang Besar and Kulala Lumpur
[2] This is the ETS inter-city timetable. As I arrived on the Bangkok-Padang Besar train at 10:50am local time, I caught EP9277 that left at 1:40pm. It may sound like a long wait but you need to pass through Immigration. You also need a buffer in case the Thai train arrives late.
[3] I chose business class for this 5 hour and 34 minute journey. This cost 177 Ringgit (1,386 Baht). This includes a meal, coffee and snacks. The seats are arranged 1 + 2 and have spacious legroom. The arms of the chairs have a table on one side and a TV monitor on the other.
[4] Attendants came round with lunch at 2:20pm, snacks at 3:20pm and a coffee and sandwich at 5:20pm. There is also a dining car of sorts which I will show you in another tweet.
[5] As to be expected, the toilets are both clean and spacious. There are indicators in the carriages to tell you if they are occupied or not. They were often full though. More are needed.
[6] This is regular class. Seating arrangement is 2 + 2 but it still has good legroom. Price is 102 Ringgit (799 Baht). Note half of the carriage has seats with their back to the engine. In the middle are seats with tables. In Business the seats swing to face direction of train.
[7] This is the “dining car” on the ETS train. It’s only at one end of the carriage as the other end is regular seating. There’s no kitchen. Meals are put in a microwave and coffee is 3-in-1. They also have sandwiches and snacks.
