The Original Chiang Mai Railway Station

The opening ceremony for Chiang Mai Railway Station took place on 1st January 1921, at the same time as the opening of the Northern Railway to Chiang Mai. During the Second World War, Allied aircraft bombed this station on 21st December 1943.

  • This is very interesting to me. I lived in Bangkok during the 1960s and wrote a fictional novel titled “Night Train to Chiangmai.”

    • Interesting being as I once took the overnight train from Bangkok to Chiang Mai in ten years ago in 2013 and it was a pretty amazing experience even though I’ve heard over the years since that the trains can be unsafe
